Three sent to hospital after car overturns

STODDARD COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported three people were sent to the hospital Tuesday after a 72-year-old hit a car, making it overturn.

According to police, Glenys M. Duckworth, 72, from Sikeston was driving a 2000 Buick southbound on US 60 at MO 153 when she failed to yield and hit a 1998 Ford.

Police say the Ford overturned. The driver, Ricky D. Davis, 24, from Sikeston and passenger Whitley M. Bratcher, 22, also from Sikeston were taken to Missouri Delta Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Another passenger, a Sikeston nine-year-old, suffered serious injuries and was taken by Evac to Children's Hospital in St. Louis.

Two arrested after meth lab explosion

Sikeston DPS arrested two people after a meth lab explosion early Sunday morning.

Mark Allen Hinklin, 37, of Jackson is charged with manufacturing methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance.

John Derek  Deloach, 23, of Sikeston is charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and a parole violation.

Sikeston DPS received several calls of an explosion at the Midtowner Motel at 833 E. Malone around 1 a.m. on June 26.

Officers found Hinklin sitting outside room 115 disoriented.

Hinklin told police he threw a cigarette in a trash can and it exploded.  A witness told police he/she heard the explosion and saw Hinklin run from the room with a cloud of smoke surrounding him toward a neighboring convenience story with a trash bag.

Meth lab materials and the discarded remains in a trash can at the nearby convenience store were collected.

Window of Sikeston patrol car smashed by rock

An out of control crowd leads to 13 arrests and a rock thrown through the back window of a Department of Public Safety patrol car in Sikeston.

It all took place in the area of Ruth and Coleman streets early Sunday morning.

Police arrived in the area after calls about some rowdy juveniles. The K-9 officer was on foot patrol, and as he approached a crowd of young people, he heard the rear window of his patrol car shatter.

The crowd around the car then ran off in several directions. Numerous officers then flooded the area in an effort to control the unruly crowds. In the end, police arrested 13 people including eight juveniles.

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - The Sikeston Public Safety is reminding residents about summer safety as July 4th approaches.

The public safety offers these tips for summer traveling:

  • Make sure your vehicle has been checked and is operating properly
  • Allow plenty of time for travel
  • Take an emergency kit with you (kit should be season specific, include medical supplies and emergency food and water)

Tips for outdoor activities:

  • Never leave BBQ grills and smokers unattended
  • While swimming make sure US Coast Guard approved life preservers are used
  • Never leave children unattended while swimming
  • Be aware of summer heat conditions
  • Stay hydrated and cool to avoid heat-related injuries

Fireworks safety tips:

  • Obey all laws in the area and follow manufacturer's recommendations
  • Children should be supervised by an adult
  • Have a first aid kit on hand

Red Cross Southeast Mo. chapter holds 94th Annual meeting

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The American Red Cross Southeast Missouri Chapter held its 94th Annual meeting Tuesday, June 28.

The meeting was at Grace United Methodist Church and Rhett Hendrickson of Hendrickson Business Advisors was the Master of Ceremonies. At each year's meeting, the incoming board of directors is elected at other important chapter business is discussed.

During this meeting, the chapter also recognized volunteers, supporters, partners and "Heroes of the American Red Cross."

Jackson Mayor Barbara Lohr swore in the incoming Chapter Board of Directors and Chairman Elect Kathy Bertrand led the business portion of the meeting.

Seven Red Cross awards were presented at the meeting.

Rte. W reduced for patching

Rte. W reduced for patching

SCOTT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Route W will be down to one lane while the Missouri Department of Transportation crews patch the road.

The section of road that will be reduced is located between County Road 413 and Route P.

Weather permitting, crews will be working Tuesday, July 5 through Tuesday, July 12 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

Freedom celebration in Sikeston

Freedom celebration in Sikeston

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - The Sikeston First Assembly of God will host a Freedom Celebration on Monday, July 4.

The free celebration will be from 4 p.m. to dark and is open to the public. It will be at the First Assembly of God's Recreational Complex located at 1221 North Ingram Road.

Events include:

  • Car show
  • Patriotic sky divers
  • Craft vendors
  • Kids' rides and games
  • Emergency units
  • Military tents
  • Live entertainment
  • Softball tournament
  • Food
