How to apply for disaster relief jobs

Walking through the doors to the Missouri Career Center is the first step toward finding a job.

"It's hard right now as far as jobs," said Freddie Sanders.

Hundreds of people were left without a job after Spring storms and floods, and are now looking for work.

Freddie Sanders is one of those people wanting to work.

"I'm willing, ready and able," said Sanders.

He went to the Missouri Career Center in Cape Girardeau to apply for a disaster relief job through the Workforce Investment Board.

"I'm like oh ok I've got to go check that out," said Sanders.

"It's going to be a fairly simple process," said Robin Strop with the Missouri Career Center. "This is a wonderful opportunity for hundreds of people to get back to work."

Strop says in order to apply you just need to be at least 18 years old, and go to one of the Career Center locations to fill out an application.

Two dead after murder/suicide in Sikeston

Police say a husband and wife are dead after a murder-suicide in Sikeston Friday afternoon.

Investigators say 34-year-old Solomon Moroney Hill shot and killed his wife, 30-year-old Kristie Hill, before killing himself.

Sgt. Jim McMillen with Sikeston DPS says it appears some sort of domestic argument sparked the shooting at 1805 Indiana Ave.  He says the couple had recently separated.

When officers arrived, they found a 30-year-old Kristie Lyn Hill dead in the hallway with multiple gunshot wounds.

"It appears to be some type of domestic issue, domestic argument that just got out of hand," said McMillen.

Neighbors heard gunshots about 4:30 in the afternoon.
