State Treasurer Clint Zweifel returns unclaimed property, including to Southeast Mo.

(KFVS) - State Treasurer Clint Zweifel announced today he has reached an important milestone, returning Unclaimed Property to more than 500,000 accounts since January 2009.

This is the most returned under any State Treasurer since Unclaimed Property became part of the office in 1993.

“Part of my job is to make Unclaimed Property as easy to return to the people who own it as I possibly can,” Treasurer Zweifel said. “By cutting red tape, reducing bureaucracy and modernizing the process, I have returned more than $155 million to more than 500,000 tax payers and cut wait times in half. This is money I hold in trust for tax payers, money people can use to pay bills, buy groceries or even take an unexpected vacation. I hold more than $750 million in Unclaimed Property for more than 4.4 million account owners and will continue to do all I can to reunite this money with the individuals to whom it belongs.”

With fatalities in teen driving wrecks going up, some wonder what they can do to help keep the roads safe.

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS)- With fatalities in teen driving wrecks going up, some wonder what they can do to help keep the roads safe.

15-year-old Mitchell Garner is learning to drive, and his mom Sarah Garner is teaching him.

"You do need to slow down," said Sarah Garner.

"Oh my gosh mom," said Mitchell Garner.

"He actually does really well, he's been driving now for about 6 months, he turned 15 back in November," said Sarah Garner.

"All my friends are like a grade above me right, and they're all driving, I'm like the missing link, I can't drive," said Mitchell Garner.

The two started out slow, navigating through all the obstacles that come with learning to drive.

St. Augustine students find thousands of reasons to be thankful

KELSO, MO (KFVS) - Students at Saint Augustine School in Kelso have thousands of reasons to be thankful and they know it.

That is becuase they took time to write down the reasons.

Thiry-seven students documented 1,000 reason to be grateful.

The reasons to be thankful include God's healing power, a friend that has your back and even Duck Dynasty.

"It helps you like think about what's important, not like the big things but the smaller things," said eighth grader McKenna Heisserer.

"It'll make them more thankful for what they do have and how some people don't have what they have and make them appreciate what they do have," said eighth grader Caleb Vetter.

Teacher Pat Hindman says the reasons were easy to come by at first, but after a few months students had to search for reasons and that opened their eyes.

MoDOT to hold hearing to discuss proposed Scott City interchange

MoDOT to hold hearing to discuss proposed Scott City interchange

SCOTT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 23 to discuss construction of an interchange south of Scott City.

The hearing will be held at the Kelso City Hall, located at 426 S. Messmer in Kelso.

"Visitors can stop-by anytime between 4 and 6 p.m. to discuss the details of the project with a member of the project team and provide their comments," said Project Manager Eric Krapf.

The proposed interchange would provide access to south Scott City, as well as a connection from Interstate 55 to Kelso. Additionally, the project would relieve congestion at the Route 61/K/M/I-55 interchange.

The project is in the scoping phase, with MoDOT currently working to gain environmental clearances.

"Once funding becomes available, MoDOT will be ready to move forward with this project and begin the design phase," Krapf said.
