Sikeston Farmer's Market opens May 11

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - Sikeston’s Farmer’s Market begins May 11, at 7 am,, in Legion Park in Historic Downtown Sikeston. 

There is expected to be a good number of vendors with everything from fresh produce to honey.

This year there; will also be a vendor selling farm fresh eggs at the outdoor market.

Several craft vendors will also be present.

For entertainment, a Bluegrass group that sings every week.

Local vendors are still encouraged to inquire about setting up shop at the market, especially meat vendors.

Maxine's Drive In torn down in Chaffee

Maxine's opened in the early 1950s.

CHAFFEE, MO (KFVS)- A long time business in Chaffee
was torn down on Thursday.

According to City
Administrator Lee Horton, Maxine's Drive In is coming down to make way for a
family dollar.

Maxine's opened in the
early 1950s.

Horton says someone took
over the business after Maxine left. It closed for good in the early 90s.

We're told when the high school
closed campus at lunch, business went downhill.

37th Annual Old Timers Days May 25-26

PERRYVILLE, MO (KFVS) - The River Hills Antique Tractor Club will hold the 37th annual Old Timers Days on May 25 and 26.

The event will be at the Seminary Picnic Grounds in Perryville, Mo. There will be antique tractors, cars and trucks on display as well as threshing, sawmilling, hay bailing, corn shelling and more.

Several area crafters will be there as well.

North, southbound I-55 to be reduced for bridge deck replacement

North, southbound I-55 to be reduced for bridge deck replacement

SCOTT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The Missouri Department of Transportation says north and southbound I-55 will be reduced to one lane with a 14-foot width restriction while crews replace the bridge deck on Route E over the interstate.

This section of road is located one-mile north of Route 77 at Benton.

Weather permitting, crews will be working Monday, May 28 at 7 a.m. and will finish by Thursday, Aug. 8 at 5 p.m.

MoDOT says the work zone will be marked with signs. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution while in the area.

SCOTT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The Missouri Department of Transportation says Route 61 will be reduced to one lane with a 16-foot width restriction while crews perform pavement repairs and asphalt overlay.

Work will be performed in different location between Route 77 at Benton and I-55 at New Madrid.

Weather permitting, crews will be working Monday, May 20 through Friday, Sept. 20 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

MoDOT says the work zone will be marked with signs. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution while in the area.

Scott City FD receives $31,000 grant for equipment

SCOTT CITY, MO (KFVS)- The Scott City Fire Department has received a grant for new equipment.

According to Chief Jay Cassout, the more than $31,000 Assistance to Firefighters Grant will be used to buy personal protective equipment, such as: helmets, boots, gloves, quick hoods, coats and pants. It is a 95/5% match grant.

The nationwide grant was started in 2000.

More than $239,000 has been awarded to the department since 2002 for equipment and training.
