Sikeston woman accused of stealing thousands from elderly man

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS)- A Sikeston woman is accused of stealing money from an 81-year-old man.

Nora Ann Magee, 59, of Sikeston, was charged through the Scott County Court with felony theft. She was given a $15,000 cash or surety bond for the offenses, which she posted and was released.

According to Sikeston DPS, the daughter of the 81-year-old victim reported to DPS on May 7 an issue of ongoing theft. The victim had reported a total of $6,600 in missing cash.

According to investigators, Magee,a former home health care worker, was still visiting the man around the first of the month and allegedly taking his money.

The man's daughter began noticing a trend of missing money, and she reported it to law enforcement.

Oran Defeats Santa Fe for First State Title

O'Fallon, MO (KFVS)- The Oran baseball team defeated Santa Fe 8-4 Wednesday in the Class 1 State Championship game to claim it's first State Title.

Oran trailed 4-0 heading into the bottom of the 5th but rallied for eight runs against the defending State Champs.

Kody Moore pitched into the 7th inning for the win and Seth Ressel came in to get the last out in the Eagles milestone  win.

Oran retiring head coach Mitch Wood goes out a winner after 21-seasons in the dug out.

Sikeston library to hold fundraiser for Vision 2013 project

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - The Sikeston Public Library will hold a fundraiser for their Vision 2013 project to renovate the lower level of the library into children’s programming space.

They say they will again be painting tiles.

For $25 per tile, a child can decorate a ceramic tile with artwork, a handprint, his or her name, or whatever interests them. Once the lower level renovation is completed, these decorated tiles will be mounted permanently.

Dates for future projects are from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 6 and Tuesday, June 18; and from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26.

According to the library, more dates for the tile decorating project will be held in July as well.

Conservation Stewardship Program Applications Due by June 14

MISSOURI (KFVS)- The Natural Resources Conservation Service's Conservation Stewardship Program will provide about $175 million in funding for up to 12.6 million additional acres enrollment this year.

Although applications are accepted all year, farmers, ranchers and forestland owners interested in CSP should submit applications by June 14 to their local NRCS office to ensure they are considered for this year's funding. The deadline was extended from May 31.

The voluntary program allows producers to go the extra mile in conserving natural resources while also maintaining or increasing the productivity of their operations.

Oran baseball wins Class 1 State Semifinal

O'Fallon, MO (KFVS)- The Oran baseball team defeated Sturgeon 5-1 Tuesday in the Class 1 State Semifinal in O'fallon.

The Eagles scored 4-runs in the 1st inning to the set the tone for the victory.

Oran will now play the winner of Dadeville and Santa Fe Wednesday for the Class 1 State Title.

Family Night June 14 at Sikeston Depot Museum

Family Night June 14 at Sikeston Depot Museum

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - Famly Night at the Sikeston Depot Museum will be June 14.

The theme is "Growing Your Garden," and will start at 5 p.m.

David Bizzell of Bizzell's Nursery will be on hand for questions and answers to gardening problems; and Cape Girardeau Nature Center will have a presentation on natives. They will also feature local garden and wildlife enthusiast, Delbert Curry, with pictures and tips on drawing certain birds to your garden.

Organizers say there will be a planting and painting station for the kids. They encourage you to bring any excess plants from your garden for the plant exchange station.

Sikeston man drowns in Charleston lake

CHARLESTON, MO (KFVS)- The Mississippi County Coroner Terry Parker says a Sikeston man has drowned in the upper Big Lake north of Charleston Monday afternoon.

According to Parker, Oscar Lee Shannon, 64, was fishing in the area of the upper Big Lake.

Parker pronounced him dead at 2:10 p.m.

According to Trooper Clark Parrott with the highway patrol, Shannon's boat capsized and authorities have recovered the body.

Parrott said it is unclear at this time how the boat capsized. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating.
