Sikeston man wanted in connection with shooting found in Texas

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -The Sikeston Department of Public Safety has found a Sikeston man wanted in connection with shooting on Sunday, August 26.

Lieutenant Jim McMillen said they received information on Cortne Beasley’s whereabouts after several interviews and a press release about him being wanted. He said they received credible information that Beasley was en route to a family member’s home in Killeen, Texas. Sikeston DPS coordinated efforts with the U.S. Marshall Service in Cape Girardeau, Mo. and Texas Department of Public Safety.

According to McMillen, the U.S. Marshall Service near Killeen, Texas assisted the Texas Department of Public Safety in intercepting Beasley as he arrived at the home. McMillen said he was arrested without incident around 11 a.m. Tuesday.

McMillen said they want to thank the agencies involved that helped with this widespread man hunt. He said it is believed Beasley was trying to flee the area to avoid prosecution. He said they also want to thank all the media outlets that helped in disseminating this story and there is little doubt this aided in his capture.

25-year-old Beasley remains in custody in Texas on three counts of assault first degree and three counts of armed criminal action. He is being held on a $100,000 cash only bond and awaiting extradition proceedings.

On Sunday around 6 p.m., the Sikeston Department of Public Safety said they received a call about shots fired at Roberta Rowe Park near Washington and Alabama Streets in Sikeston. They said two people at the park got into a confrontation and began fighting several other people nearby. After the fight, police said one subject got into a vehicle and started to leave.

Police said the other subject involved in the altercation, Beasley, was said to have gotten a pistol and began shooting at the departing vehicle. They said Beasley fired the gun at the vehicle, hitting it several times as it drove away. A 21-year-old passenger not involved in the fight was shot as he sat in the back seat of the vehicle. Police said he was taken to a local hospital for a gunshot wound to his legs. They said his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
