Historic Downtown Sikeston Car Show, Ice Cream Social

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - The Historic Downtown Sikeston will have a Car Show and Ice Cream Social on Saturday, July 20 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Events will include crafts, concessions, music, door prizes and free ice cream while supplies last.

Registration for the car show will be from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., judging will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and awards will be at 3 p.m.

There will be an entry fee of $15 for cars and trucks and $10 for bikes.

Trophies will be awarded for first and second in each class with dash placques going to the fist 50. Classes include:

Mo. State Parks invites everyone to Great American Backyard Campout June 22

JACKSON, MO (KFVS) - Missouri State Parks invites you to experience an outdoor adventure under the stars with friends and family on June 22 during the Great American Backyard Campout.

The Great American Backyard Campout is a nationwide initiative by the National Wildlife Federation to encourage families and communities to reconnect and experience the outdoors. To help you celebrate, Missouri State Parks is offering special programs and activities to make this night one to remember.

"Whether it’s your first time camping or you’re following a long-standing tradition, the Great American Backyard Campout is a great opportunity for families to get outdoors and experience nature,” said Bill Bryan, director of Missouri State Parks, a division of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. “There are a variety of events at parks and historic sites throughout the state to give you the chance to come out and enjoy a fun camping adventure.”

Sikeston Public Library offers teen programs

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - The Sikeston Public Library says teens, entering grade 6 and up, will be meeting from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning on June 26.

The library says their programs will focus on topics related to the summer reading theme, including geology and volcanoes, Egyptians and archaeology, gardening and recycling, the bottom of the ocean, and outer space.

An end-of-the-year party for teens only will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31.

Family Night at Sikeston Depot Museum

Family Night at Sikeston Depot Museum

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - Family Night at the Sikeston Depot Museum will be Friday, June 14 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The theme is "Growing your Garden," and will feature:

  • Attracting birds and butterflies
  • Using narratives in your landscape
  • Herbs and edibles
  • Plant exchange
  • Planting and painting station for kids

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

There will be presentations by:

  • Delbert Curry - Varieties of birds and what attracts them
  • Missouri Dept. of Conservation - Natives in your landscape
  • David Bizzell from Bizzell Nursery - Q&A on plant health

The Depot Museum is located at 116 West Malone Avenue in Sikeston.

Softball reunion in Vanduser

VANDUSER, MO (KFVS) -  There will be a reunion for anyone who has ever played softball for the village of Vanduser.

The reunion will be held at the Vanduser Cafe on Saturday, June 8 at 1 p.m.

Any person who has ever played on any of the Vanduser teams is invited to attend.

2013 Springfest June 5-8 in Sikeston

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - The 2013 Springfest will be June 5-8 at The Market Place in Sikeston.

It will include rides, games, food and fun for all ages. Springfest will be Wednesday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday from noon until 11 p.m.

Tickets are $15 purchases before the event from the Chamber or $18 on site. Armband night will be Wednesday and Thursday.

Summer reading programs begin at Sikeston library

Summer reading programs begin at Sikeston library

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - Beginning June 24, children between the age of two and high school age are invited to join the Sikeston Public Library for stories, games, snacks and fun.

This year’s theme for children is “Dig into Reading” and for teens, the theme is “Beneath the Surface.”

Children entering kindergarten through second grade will have programming from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Mondays, beginning on June 24 and running weekly through July 29.

Children entering grades 3-5 will be reading the book "The Mystery of the Mummy’s Curse" weekly from 1:30 to 3 p.m. beginning Tuesday, June 25 and running weekly through July 30.

Preschoolers are invited to the library at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays, when the regular Preschool Storytime will focus on the Summer Reading theme during the month of July.
