Sikeston DPS hosting free women's self-defense course, expands class size

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - Members of the Sikeston Department of Public Safety are hosting a free Women’s self-defense course at our Public Safety Headquarters located at 201 S. Kingshighway Sikeston, Mo.

The class date is set for April 20 beginning at 10 a.m. and lasting until 1 p.m.

Accordind to DPS, they will be expanding the class size to 100 attendees due to the overwhelming response they received.

DPS says the class will predominately be a lecture on raising awareness with some demonstration of basic strategies of self-defense.

Other topics to be covered but not limited to:

  • What Criminals look for in a victim
  • Trusting your intuition (going with your gut)
  • Be aware of your surroundings and having a plan
  • Recognizing and reporting suspicious incidents

The instructors provided for this class are currently defensive tactics instructors for the department and are well versed in all aspects of law enforcement. We are tentatively planning a “hands on” session with any attendee that wishes to participate.

To sign up for the class contact Sgt. Zach Albright. You can reach him at DPS HQ by phone at 573-471-6200 ex.3926. Please leave a message with your name and phone number. Remember, this free class has limited seating, so don’t delay.
