SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - A little more than a year later after a groundbreaking ceremony, the Sikeston Department of Safety moved into its new headquarters.
The new DPS building replaces the old headquarters on North New Madrid Street.
The new building meets the current needs for officers, training and technology. That includes a safer environment for officers and inmates.
"The cell area is on the first floor," said Lt. Jim McMillen with Sikeston DPS. "Before, if we arrested anybody, we had to take them downstairs into the basement. We've had incidents where people trip. When you're trying to transport somebody that has been intoxicated in handcuffs, or maybe fighting, you really don't want to start walking them down a flight of stairs. It's difficult."
DPS is now located on the corner of South Kingshighway and Trotter, just south of the Board of Municipal Utilities Building.
