SIKESTON, MO (KFVS)- Authorities say a Sikeston man faces drug charges after two pounds of marijuana was found at his home.

Joe Moore, 24, of Sikeston was charged Thursday with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

According to DPS Lt. Jim McMillen, a postal worker contacted the SEMO Drug Task Force on July 11 after finding a suspicious package.

A DPS K-9 alerted officers to the odor of illegal narcotics coming from the box. Police told the worker he could continue his delivery of the package which was addressed to William Street in Sikeston.

Investigators say a search warrant was obtained after Moore refused permission for his home to be searched.

With no reason to hold him at the time, officers say Moore chose to leave the area.

A short time later the search warrant was served and the officers located the package inside the residence. The mailed box contained over two pounds of marijuana duct taped in two gallon size bags.

Moore was found by officers Thursday at his place of employment on South Main in Sikeston. He was taken into custody without incident.

Moore was given a bond of $75,000 cash or surety and remained in custody awaiting his arraignment.
