Mo. voter turnout expected to be high | News

SCOTT COUNTY, MO (KFVS)- You can expect the polls to be crowded Tuesday across Missouri.

Election officials are predicting more voters will go to the polls today than any other time in history.

That will include a very large turnout in Scott County.

Along with the Presidential election, there are several issues that will generate enthusiasm such as the U.S. Senate race, the Governor's race, and Proposition B, which could raise the tobacco tax.

But Scott County Clerk, Rita Milam says while other issues are very important, it's the guys at the top of the ballot that generate high turnout.

"I estimate 75 percent in Scott county," said Milam. "I read in the paper where the Secretary of State said 72 percent, so I'm sure that's what the average state wide came out," she added.

If voter turnout is that high, it will set a new record in the state.

In 2008, 2.9 million people voted in Missouri, or 64 percent.

So anything over 70 percent will guarantee more than 3 million votes cast for the first time in state history.
