(KFVS) - Consider this a friendly reminder and/or a great opportunity because Valentine's Day is right around the corner!

HAVCO employees raise over $2,000 for Dig for Life program

SCOTT CITY, MO (KFVS) - Employees at HAVCO Wood Products, LLC, in Scott City, Mo., raised $2,217 for Dig for Life.

Dig for Life is a Saint Francis Medical Center program that provides free mammography screenings for women who otherwise could not afford them.

Nearly 450 employees at the HAVCO locations in Scott City and Vonore, Tenn., bought pink shirts in October as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and selected Dig for Life as the fundraising recipient.

Through Dig for Life donors, Saint Francis provides more than 400 free mammograms to local women each year, and has provided more than 2,000 free mammograms since the program began in 2000.

2 Air Evac Lifeteam pilots celebrate milestones

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - Two pilots for the Air Evac Lifeteam base in Sikeston recently celebrated milestones in their careers.

George Smith was presented with his 2,000th flight wings and Fred Finnell was presented with his 3,000th flight wings.

Air Evac Lifeteam provides emergency air medical service to people who need it most, those living in rural America. Smith and Finnell are two of four pilots at the Sikeston base. Jim Damron and Jeff Kight also fly for Air Evac Lifeteam in Sikeston. Flight nurse Chuck Groshong commented on all of the pilots.

“I cannot say enough about all our pilots, George, Fred, Jim, and Jeff,” he said. “They are all quality men, pilots and partners. There are no other pilots we could ever feel safer flying with than them. Thank you for recognizing George and Fred for their great accomplishments. That's a lot of prayers answered and souls saved.”

(KFVS) - The Missouri Department of Revenue is cautioning all seniors and disabled Missourians to be aware of possible scams involving the filing of a Property Tax Credit claim.

According to the department, scams involving the PTC, formerly known as the Circuit Breaker Tax Credit, frequently target seniors and the disabled. Scam artists often pose as trustworthy helpers and can be friends, family members, or caregivers. Listed below are some tips and reminders to help citizens protect themselves from potential fraud.

2 Sikeston pilots to be honored by Air Evac

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - Two Sikeston pilots will be honored with Flight Wings presentations on Wednesday, January 16 by Air Evac Lifeteam President Seth Myers.

The pilots being honored include: George Smith, who has flown 2,000 missions and Fred Finnell, who has flown 3,000 missions.

Air Evac Lifeteam is a rural-based air ambulance service providing emergency medical transport from accident scenes to hospitals and trauma centers, as well as transfers between hospitals.

The presentations will start at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Cape Airport Restaurant, 860 Rush H. Limbaugh Jr. Memorial Drive in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

East Prairie man claims $60,500 in lottery drawing

EAST PRAIRIE, MO (KFVS) - An East Prairie man was one of two players with winning tickets for the Dec. 1 Missouri Lottery Show Me Cash drawing.

Dustin Allen, 25, received an equal share of the $121,000 jackpot. The other half was claimed by a St. Charles woman in early December. Allen claimed his $60,500 prize just before the end of the year.

Allen bought his winning ticket at BJ’s Kwik Shop, 905 S. Main St., in Sikeston. He used Quick Pick to select the winning numbers:  8, 12, 15, 18 and 26.

BJ’s Kwik Shop received a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
