Sikeston DPS earns MDA collection honors

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - The Sikeston Department of Public Safety has received recognition for their 2011 MDA “Fill the Boot” drive.

Lt. Jim McMillen says that members of the Sikeston-area community donated a record amount of money to firemen in 2011.  Fire Fighters collected $18,132 this year, nearly $3,700 more than in 2010.  The department ranked first out of 34 Departments around the Tri-State area in MDA collections, according to McMillen.

Nearly all of the money was collected from customers at Wal-Mart and Food Giant Stores of Sikeston. McMillen says if not for the cooperation from these local businesses and their customers, they would not have been so successful.

Each year Fire Fighters across the nation take part in a fundraiser for children stricken with muscular dystrophy.
