Facebook page helps owners find missing pets

SCOTT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - A Facebook page is reaching out to the community to help owners around the Heartland find their missing pets.

SEMO Lost Dog lets owners post pictures of their missing pets, along with information, so that anyone that "likes" the page can see it and hopefully find them.

If you have found a stray, you can post a picture and information as well.

All you have to do is go to the page and "like" it.

Creators encourage people that find their missing pets to post on the page as well, sharing the "happy tail."

Along with missing pet information, you can find tips on how to keep animals safe and other ways to get your missing, furry, family member's picture out there.

Humane society: keep outdoor pets cool this summer

Humane society: keep outdoor pets cool this summer

SCOTT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The Caruthersville Humane Society has released some tips for pet owners during the hot summer months.

According to the humane society, the summer heat can quickly dehydrate your pet, so it is important to keep clean water available at all times. Pet owners should remember shade or an area away from direct sunlight is also a must.

Along with shade and plenty of water, it is also advised to not leave animals in a car for any period of time during the hot summer months. The humane society says even in a short period of time, a car can quickly heat up above the outdoor temperature and your pet can suffer, or even die.

The Caruthersville Humane Society President and Animal Cruelty Investigator Karol Wilcox says fleas and ticks are more prominent this year along with biting flies.

"Please take the time to protect your pet against these pests," said Wilcox. "Open wounds from these bites can cause serious infections.
